Tuesday after school, I spend most of my time working on a project that’s due Friday. I won’t be able to work on it tomorrow because of choir rehearsal.

I like singing in the choir, but at times I wish I didn’t. I’m missing some good TV shows that come on Wednesday nights. I record as many of them as I can, but it seems like I never get around to watching them.

I take a break at dinnertime but return to work on my project afterward.

Mia calls me around eight and we talk for almost an hour.

I’m stunned.

I haven’t spoken to Mia on the phone in a minute. Not since we had that little disagreement over Tim. It’s pretty clear to me that she’s chosen him over her true friends. Like whatever…

Now we’re sitting here, talking and laughing like nothing ever happened. I have to admit, I’ve missed her. Mia can be a lot of fun. The girl is crazy.

“Did he really say that?” she asks.

“Yeah. He was from New York, and, Mia, you should’ve seen him trying to get his mack on. It was too funny.”

When our conversation draws to a close, Mia tells me, “I missed talking to you, girl.”

“Me, too.”

“I better get off this phone. I need to finish my homework before my parents kill me.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” I say. “Oh, don’t forget your PE clothes. We have to dress out.”

Mia never mentioned Tim and neither did I. We seem to get along so much better when we don’t talk about him. He’s not a favorite subject of mine anyway.

We end our call and I return to my project, feeling much better about my relationship with Mia.
